APPETITO
The life, soul & tastes of Italian Home Cooking
Much more than a cookbook, Appetito is a collection of Mangia Mangia favourites, of our go-to meals guided by the seasons, recipes handed down through generations, and the dishes we seek out on our travels. This is true Italian in its beautiful simplicity.
From Lemon Pesto and Butter Baked Scallops through to Strawberry Tiramisu for dessert, Tuscan Bruschetta, Foraged Herb Risotto and Almond Torta Caprese, there’s love in these pages, and every ingredient, as a celebration of all that good food brings.
Use this book as a guide, as inspiration, as a little Italian escapism.

About Alison
Writer, photographer, and passionate foodie, Alison is the owner of Italian food business Mangia Mangia ('Eat up, Eat up') and founder of ‘The Italian Way’ food, travel and lifestyle blog.

After 20 years in Italy, she opened Mangia Mangia in England intent on sharing her mother-in-law's lasagne. She now divides her time between Veneto and the cathedral city of Lichfield hosting culinary evenings, mixing spritzes at summer festivals, and stocking a market stall with homemade tiramisù and Nonna Lili’s Lasagne.

Outside of the kitchen, Alison can be found exploring Italian food markets or seeking out the lesser-known bàcari of Venice with Francesco and their daughters, camera in one hand, Campari spritz in the other.
Torta Caprese
"Just off the coast of Sorrento, Capri’s rugged outline appears over hazy seas from the Amalfi Coast as a distant paradise beckoning you closer. Home to the most alluring of temptresses, the Sirens, Capri has drawn glitz, glamour and fame since the ancient Greeks constructed an acropolis here in the 8th Century BCE. Emperor Tiberius adored the place so much he built Villa Jovis, Villa of Jupiter, as a holiday home, and who can blame him? If the crystalline waters and jagged cliffs don't tempt you enough, then the balmy Mediterranean lifestyle; lounging on terracotta terraces of lemon trees, dining on some of Italy's most gorgeous foods and sipping the crispest white wines most certainly will.
In Naples, you'll spot the much-loved Torta Caprese on many dolci menus. The cake of Capri.
Don't be swayed by its simple attire, this cake is beautifully decadent just like the isle, it's also wheat-free."
